yes, i know you have heard this before but now we are actually 'culturally aware'. None of this feet or yard or metres stuff...i mean we truly understand what kind of changes we will face and how to handle them. Currently i have been complaining about how bullshit tutes are but this workshop was like a double period in high school. And just like high school, i have some study notes:
KEY TERMS:
- "fished often"
- "Baad Pice" (a mispoken version of Bride price)
- "Go fish" if you "happen to be an aborigine"
KEY CONCEPTS:
- the 'gift of puberty' which is apparently a very important European tradition
- the way that the Trobian Islanders lived. This part of the workshop turned into some bizarre history lesson
Madd: how is this relevant to exchange?
Britt: i've forgotten that im going on exchange!
- In our culture our family is NOT above the law ie. Second cousins can sink or swim. we don't care.
KEY QUOTES:
- (referring to a spider diagram with many bubbles and a centre bubble that says YOU)
Britt: Who? you?
Madd: NO! not me...YOU!
- "delay judgements" ie. still be judgemental, just delay it
I have to say that this was the best class and the most work that i have done in the three semesters of being at uni. Ironic how it was about me leaving it though. But every suggestion you made in the class was 'absolutely correct'. None of this 'maybe' or 'actually...' jazz that is so common nowadays.
AND! we met two girls who were exactly like US! they even wore the same thing and it was funny because we were wearing similar outfits too! how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some extra additions:
- don't forget that we must have an ''incredibly'' interesting time, not just interesting, INCREDIBLY INTERESTING.
- how she would cover the remainder of the overhead, so that she could 'suprise!!" us when she began to discuss further down the page.
- Simone's emotion graph that went from extremely low to extremely high in one clean line. no zig zags or emotional turmoil for her!
what an educational arvo!!
Heya! are you going on exchange next semester?! For how long?
Hmm...I'm a pub comm/international studies student at UTS, in my 3rd year.. just letting you know that I've linked your blog to a website project I'm working on with the Humanities faculty..www.hssinternational.squarespace.com if that's ok with you. Don't be scared- haha It's not an official website, but it's meant to provide info for students going overseas, as well as ones coming to UTS on exchange. Sounds like you're gonna have a blast...
I would like to link as many students who are overseas to the blog as possible...so if you know anyone who does blog and is travelling, pls let me kno! or if you would prefer for me not to link you, my email is Tanny.por@gmail.com
Will keep posted on your travels!
Cheers!
Tanny
